It is an honour and privilege for our university to organize the 59th Annual Meeting of the PIAC in cooperation with Caucasus University Association. I think Ardahan is an important gate to Caucaus & Central Asia and is hence a perfect location to host such an event.
I wish all of you a successful conference
Prof. Dr. Ramazan KORKMAZ
The Permanent International Altaistic Conference (PIAC) is an informal gathering of scholars, old and young, interested in Altaic and Central Eurasian studies. Specialists in many fields and disciplines are welcome as long as their work is relevant to the PIACs interests. Deliberate efforts have been made to channel the PIAC away from the great congress syndrome and to maintain it on the level of symposia where, in a relatively small circle of experts, problems of communal interest, both scientific and organizational, can be discussed. A much-prized feature of these meetings are the so-called confessions at which each participant in his or her turn informs the plenum of ongoing work, projects, and future publications. The obvious usefulness of such exchanges of information is further increased by the participation of scholars who would not normally meet. Each meeting unites experts from between 15 and 20 countries. In recent years participants from the following countries attended: Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Korea (South), Mongolia, Netherlands, Norway, Peoples Republic of China, Poland, Republic of China, Romania, Russian Federation, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Turkmenistan, USA, Uzbekistan.
59th PIAC MEETING
The 59th Annual Meeting of the Permanent International Altaistic Conference will be hosted by Ardahan University and Caucasus University Association (CUA). The arrival date is Sunday, June 26 and the departure date is Friday, July 1, 2016. The general theme of the 59th Annual Meeting is "Statehood in the Altaic World".
Regarding the emphasis both Ardahan University and CUA have put on the Altaic studies so far, the city of Ardahan, as an important gate to Caucaus and Central Asia, is a perfect location to host the 59th PIAC Meeting. Within this context, in addition to the papers to be presented at the Meeting, a Panel will also be held on Turkology. The theme of the Panel is Perspectives on the Studies in Turkology in Caucasus and Central Asia.
